Gift card advanced settings

Found in: Giftnote App > Settings > Gift Cards > Advanced Settings

These options control how gift cards behave when issued through Giftnote.

1. Attach recipient to gift cards in Shopify

This is no longer a setting you configure. Giftnote now always creates a Shopify customer profile for the gift recipient when technically possible — there is nothing to enable.

Recipient profiles help you identify who received a gift card, track redemptions, and include recipients in future marketing.

2. Allow discounts

Controls how Giftnote calculates the value of a gift card when a discount is applied at checkout.

• Off (default) → Giftnote issues the gift card only for what the customer actually paid after any discount, when that is more than $0. (e.g. a 10% discount on a $100 card issues a $90 card) This keeps your gift card liability tied to the revenue you collected.

3. Expiry

Set the validity period for gift cards using Years / Months / Days fields, or turn expiry off entirely with the Enabled/Disabled switch.

Check local legal requirements around gift card expiry dates.

4. Code format

Set the number of characters in each gift card code — between 8 and 20 characters. You can also set an optional prefix and suffix (letters and numbers only). The prefix and suffix share an 8-character allowance, and a code preview shows the result.

Longer codes = better security.

5. Auto fulfill

When enabled, Giftnote will auto-fulfill gift card orders in Shopify. Saves time by skipping manual fulfillment steps. Turn off if you need a human to check orders first.
