Giftnote has two paid plans: Core at $19/month and Professional at $99/month. Both include 20 credits, then cost $1 per gift message or gift card. Shopify bills you, and a spend limit caps your usage charges, so raise it before a busy season.
Your first month is free when you first subscribe. Usage charges still apply. Your plan, credits, rates and spend limit are all in Giftnote under Settings → Subscription.
Legacy and custom plans stay as they are. You don't need to switch, but Professional features such as Multi Gift and the Giftnote API need the Professional plan.

Core plan: $19/month + $1 per gift
Core suits stores that want gift messages, digital gift cards and recipient emails. It includes 20 credits, then $1 per gift message or gift card.
What's included:
- The gift message widget on product pages, the cart drawer and checkout (the checkout widget needs Shopify Plus)
- Digital gift cards sent straight to the recipient
- Store credit
- Recipient emails sent when the gift arrives, with email and SMS templates you can edit
- The Klaviyo integration
- The Giftnote dashboard
- The order status page widget, which confirms the gift message to the buyer after checkout
Not included: Multi Gift, shipping and tax calculations, API access, and removing the "Powered by Giftnote" branding. These need Professional.
Professional plan: $99/month + $1 per gift
Professional has everything in Core, plus Multi Gift for customers who buy gifts in bulk: staff gifts, client thank-yous and events. It includes 20 credits, then $1 per gift message or gift card. Multi Gift usage is billed at the rate shown in Settings → Subscription. You can also remove the "Powered by Giftnote" branding.
What Multi Gift adds:
- A branded gifting site on a free giftnote.shop address or your own domain
- CSV upload for many recipients in one order
- A personal gift message for each recipient
- Address checks
- Live shipping rates
Once you're on Professional, manage your gifting sites in Settings → Multi Gifts. Want us to set it up? Complimentary onboarding is included on all paid plans. Email support@giftnote.com and we aim to have you set up within 48 hours.
How the per-gift fee works
- Gift messages and gift cards: your plan includes 20 credits, once per store. After that, each gift message or gift card costs $1 on top of your monthly fee. One order with a gift message is one $1 fee, however many items are in the cart. The fee is per gift, not per email or SMS.
- Multi Gift orders: Multi Gift is on Professional only, billed at the rate shown in Settings → Subscription. A large order adds to your usage, so check your spend limit before a big campaign.
If you send no gifts in a month, you pay only the plan fee.
How billing works through Shopify
Shopify bills you for Giftnote on your normal Shopify invoice. You don't need a separate card or billing account.
Your Giftnote charges have two parts:
- Plan fee: $19/month (Core) or $99/month (Professional), charged at the start of each billing cycle.
- Usage fees: $1 per gift message or gift card after your 20 credits (plus Multi Gift usage on Professional), charged at the end of each billing cycle.
To see your Giftnote charges in Shopify, go to Shopify admin → Settings → Billing → View all subscriptions → Giftnote.
In Giftnote, Settings → Subscription shows your plan, the credits you've used, your rates and your spend limit. You also switch plans there.
The spend limit: raise it before your busy season
Your spend limit caps Giftnote's usage charges each billing period. You'll find it as Spend limit in Settings → Subscription. If you reach it, new gift messages are paused. They send once the charge goes through, at the start of your next billing period or after you raise the limit. If you don't raise it before Black Friday, Valentine's Day or Mother's Day, gift messages can stop going out at your busiest time.
Every gift after your 20 credits counts towards the limit. Raising the limit doesn't mean you'll spend that much. You still pay only for the gifts you send.
To raise it, click Change spend limit in Settings → Subscription. See Increase Your Shopify Billing Spend Cap for the steps and how much to set. Check it at least 8 weeks before each big gifting season (Black Friday/Cyber Monday, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Christmas).
What happens when you uninstall Giftnote
- Charges stop. Uninstalling cancels your Giftnote subscription. There's no contract.
- Gift card codes keep working. Giftnote gift cards are standard Shopify gift cards, so recipients can still spend them after you uninstall.
A charge after uninstalling usually covers usage from before you uninstalled, because of Shopify's billing cycle. If you think we charged you by mistake, email support@giftnote.com and we'll review it.
Turning off the Giftnote app embed in your theme doesn't cancel your subscription. To cancel, uninstall Giftnote in Shopify admin → Settings → Apps and sales channels → Giftnote → Uninstall.
Billing per store, not per account
Each Shopify store has its own Giftnote subscription and usage charges. If you run several stores (for example, one per region), Shopify bills each one separately. You can't combine them into one subscription.
Can I charge my customers for the gift message?
Yes. Some merchants charge $1 to cover the fee. Others charge $2–$5 and keep the difference:
On Shopify Plus you can add the charge at checkout without a developer. Choose the surcharge product in Settings → Gift Orders → Advanced → Surcharge & visibility. The Gift Message checkout block adds the charge when a customer adds a gift message, and removes it if they remove the message. See Upselling and Charging for Giftnote at Checkout on Shopify Plus.
On other Shopify plans you need a developer. See Charging Customers for Giftnote (Developer Setup).
Notes
- No minimum usage. With no gift orders in a month, you pay only the plan fee ($19 or $99).
- One gift message per order. One item or ten, an order with a gift message is one $1 fee.
- Budget for usage in your free month. The first month's plan fee is free, but per-gift fees apply from the day you choose a plan.
- Only you can change the spend limit. We can't raise it for you. Use Change spend limit in Settings → Subscription.
- A new Shopify theme turns the app embed off. After switching themes, turn the Giftnote app embed back on. This affects whether the widget shows, not your billing.
