3. Why does the Multi Gift portal not appear in Google?

The portal is a private ordering tool, not a storefront. What that means for your SEO, how storefront visibility and custom domains work, and what to tell an agency that flags it in an audit.

The Multi Gift portal is a private ordering tool, not a public storefront. It is designed for buyers who arrive from your Shopify store, from a link your sales team sends, or from a link in your gifting emails.

Settings β†’ Multi Gifts, showing your storefronts and the Open storefront link.

It is not designed to rank in search, and it will not compete with your Shopify store for search traffic.

Where do buyers come from, if not search?

Every corporate buyer reaches the portal through a route you control:

  • a Send to many call to action on your Shopify store
  • a direct link your sales or wholesale team sends
  • a link in your gifting or corporate email campaigns
  • a link from your corporate gifting landing page, which sits on your Shopify store and does rank

Your Shopify store does the ranking. The portal does the ordering.

If you want corporate gifting to bring in search traffic, build a corporate gifting page on your own store, optimise that page, and point its call to action at the portal. That approach gives you the SEO benefit on a domain you own and control, and it puts the ordering flow behind it.

Is the portal blocked from search engines?

Not automatically, today. The portal is not built for search discovery, but it does not currently carry a site-wide directive telling search engines to stay out.

You cannot achieve this with custom CSS. CSS controls appearance only, and has no influence on whether a page is crawled or indexed.

What does storefront visibility do?

Each storefront has a Visibility setting on its Identity tab (Giftnote β†’ Settings β†’ Multi Gifts β†’ Edit on the storefront):

  • Draft β€” hidden everywhere except the editor.
  • Unlisted β€” anyone with the direct link can open it, but it stays hidden from your shop directory.
  • Published β€” live, listed on the directory and reachable via its URL.

Unlisted keeps a storefront off your directory. It is not a no-index directive: a search engine that finds the link elsewhere can still crawl it.

Will the portal harm my store's SEO?

No. The portal sits on a separate domain from your Shopify store. It does not compete with your product pages, it does not duplicate your content, and nothing about it affects how your store ranks.

Why are the portal URLs structured the way they are?

Each order gets a unique URL so that a buyer can return to an order in progress, and so that a link sent to a colleague opens the right order.

The structure reflects what the Shopify API allows us to build, and it prioritises getting the right buyer to the right order over readability. It is a functional URL for a private tool rather than a marketing URL.

Older order links expire as orders are completed or abandoned. A link that no longer resolves is a finished or expired order rather than a broken page. You control how long unfinished orders are kept under Settings β†’ Multi Gifts β†’ Advanced settings β†’ Cleanup timers: Abandoned carts (1–30 days) and Saved drafts (1–90 days).

Frequently asked questions

My SEO agency flagged the portal in an audit. What should I tell them?
That it is a private ordering application on a separate domain, intentionally excluded from your search strategy. It is not a page that was meant to rank and failed to.

Can I use my own domain for the portal?
Yes. Each storefront can have its own web address, set on the Custom domain card of its Advanced tab. Claim a free giftnote.shop address, which works straight away with no DNS changes, or use your own domain, such as a subdomain of your brand. See How to Set Up Your Custom Gifting Subdomain.

Can I stop specific portal pages appearing in search right now?
Set a storefront you don't want public to Unlisted or Draft to keep it off your shop directory. For anything else, chat with us using the chat button in the help centre or in the app, or email support@giftnote.com.

Does the portal show up in Shopify's Shop app or in shopping feeds?
No. It is not a storefront and does not publish products to any feed.

Can I track visits to the portal?
Yes. On the storefront's Advanced tab, under Analytics, add your Google Tag Manager Container ID and Meta Pixel ID to track visits and conversions. Leave a field blank to skip it.
