Gift cards and store credit

Gift cards work the same way for your customers, but they're far easier for you to manage, search, and trust. In the app, Gift Cards covers standard gift cards, gift cards with messages, and store credit.

Real controls

• Edit expiry — turn expiry on or off, and set it in years, months, or days, from Settings → Gift Cards → Advanced Settings. Expiry is a shop-wide setting, not a per-card one.
• Send now — send, or change the message and delivery time, on a card that hasn't gone out yet.
• Multi-currency cards — cards are issued in the customer's checkout currency, for the price of the selected variant. Set fixed gift card prices for each market in Shopify Markets; otherwise Shopify converts the price and the issued amount can be an uneven exchange-rate value.

Verified before they send

A gift card only goes out once its code is confirmed as created — so a customer never receives a card that doesn't work.

Shopify's own fraud assessment for an order now shows on the gift card, so you can see a risky order before anything is delivered. Giftnote issues the gift card once Shopify allows the purchase. If the order is cancelled (by you, or by your fraud tools), Giftnote archives the card. The public balance checker is rate-limited, which stops people guessing codes.

Send Now gift cards wait 15 minutes before they go out, counted from when payment is received. If your store uses a fraud-detection app that holds payment until the buyer is approved, the 15 minutes starts after that approval.

In sync with Shopify

Gift card status shows on the originating Shopify order, and you can turn on automatic fulfilment so the order updates itself once the card is ready.

A full paper trail

Every gift card keeps its own history, and you can pull a liability export for your accounting from Settings → Exports — a point-in-time snapshot, not a date-range report.
