Yes. One Giftnote gift card product can sell in each region's local currency, and the card is issued in the currency the customer paid in.

What changed, and why older advice is wrong
Before June 2026, Shopify issued every gift card in the store's base currency. A customer paying £100 on an Australian store received a card issued as $188 AUD. The balance then moved with the exchange rate, so a £100 card could be worth £90 or £110 a few months later.
Shopify launched local-currency gift cards in June 2026. Giftnote added support in August 2026. If you were told gift cards only issue in your base currency, that advice is out of date.
Why does my gift card still show a dollar sign for UK customers?
Shopify doesn't translate variant names into the customer's currency. A variant name is plain text saved on the product, so a variant called $50 reads $50 to a UK customer, even though the price shows £50.
The price the customer pays is correct. Only the label is wrong. You can fix it by updating your theme, creating a separate gift card product for each region, or using numbers only in variant names. Each fix is explained in Set up gift cards for Shopify Markets.
Does the currency flow through to Klaviyo?
Yes. The currency flows through to the Giftnote Klaviyo events.
Check that your gift card email templates use the gift card currency merge field rather than a typed symbol. A template with $ typed into it shows $ to every recipient, whichever region they bought in.
Should I use Shopify Markets or a separate expansion store?
Both work with Giftnote. The choice isn't really about gifting.
Markets keeps one store, one catalog and one set of settings. An expansion store gives each region full independence, including its own Klaviyo account, but doubles the setup and maintenance. If you run an expansion store, install Giftnote on it and copy your Klaviyo flows across.

Do I need a different gift card product for each market?
No. One product can sell in every region's currency. A separate product per region is one way to fix variant names, not a requirement.
If someone buys a gift card in NZD, does the recipient receive it in NZD?
Yes. The card is issued in the currency of the purchase. Make one test purchase per region before peak season to check your prices are set the way you expect.
Does the balance still move with the exchange rate?
No. That only happened under the old base-currency model described above.
Does multi-currency work for store credit as well as gift cards?
Yes, if you issue it through Shopify Flow. Store credit issued from the Giftnote app is issued in your store's base currency. Store credit campaigns run through Shopify Flow issue credit in the customer's own currency.
Do promotions that issue a percentage back work across markets?
Yes. The credit is calculated on what the customer pays and issued in the buyer's currency. A customer who pays in NZD receives their credit in NZD.
Do I need to change anything in Giftnote itself?
No. The work is in your Shopify catalog prices, your variant names and your Klaviyo templates.
