Gift orders and messages
Gift orders and gift messages were rebuilt from the ground up in our big September 2026 update — faster, more reliable, and with more room for a merchant or customer to fix a mistake.
Orders that stay in sync
- Live order syncing — changes made in Shopify show up in the Giftnote app the moment they happen. No more waiting for a scheduled refresh.
- Multi-parcel tracking — orders that ship in more than one parcel are tracked per-shipment, and you can choose which parcel drives the gift's delivery status.
- Instant cancellations — cancelling an order takes effect immediately.
- Self-healing orders — orders that get stuck are found and recovered automatically.
Messages that reveal at the right moment
- A 15-minute grace window — Send Now gifts wait 15 minutes after checkout before they send. A cancelled or fraud-flagged order stops in that time, and a typo can still be fixed. Send Now gift cards also wait 15 minutes, counted from when payment is received. If your store uses a fraud-detection app that holds payment until the buyer is approved, the 15 minutes starts after that approval.
- Reveal at the doorstep — tracked gift messages unwrap the moment delivery is confirmed by the carrier or Shopify.
- On-fulfilment sends — you can also choose to trigger the message the moment an order ships, rather than waiting for delivery confirmation.
- One engine, every schedule — instant, delayed, or a chosen date all run through the same delivery engine, configurable per delivery method in your Settings → Gift Orders → Advanced settings.
- A live character count — gift messages can be up to 210 characters, and the app shows a live count when you edit one.
- Automatic carrier detection — Giftnote detects the carrier from each new order's tracking number, so there are no carriers to set up.
More control over each gift order
- Fix it from the order — edit the message and recipient, change the delivery method and scheduled time, or change the selected fulfillment.
- Retry and resend — every notification shows its own status with success or failure detail, and you can retry or resend it.
- Health checks — each gift order shows a Health status. When something needs attention you see what went wrong, and Reprocess runs the order again once it's fixed.
- Add a message to any order — Create Message attaches a gift message to any Shopify order that doesn't already have one, even if no gift details were added at checkout.
- Archive — archiving removes a gift order from your active list and stops further gift processing. It can't be undone, and Giftnote doesn't delete gift orders.
You control which delivery methods are available to customers — Send Now, Send Later, On Delivery, and On Fulfillment can each be turned on or off — from your gift order's Advanced settings.
