Use our integration with Attentive for total control and customization of the gifting journey.

Settings → Integrations → Attentive. Select Connect Attentive to connect your account.

Set up transactional emails and optional SMS with Attentive

  • Emails triggered by Giftnote via Attentive are always sent as transactional.
  • SMS will only be sent if the recipient has explicitly opted into SMS through Attentive.
  • If they haven't opted in, they'll still receive the email, but not the SMS.

To encourage more SMS opt-ins, we recommend adding a sign-up link to your SMS message.

To add a sign-up link to your SMS template

  1. Open the Giftnote app inside your Shopify admin.
  2. Go to Settings → Notifications. SMS is a channel on the two gift message events: Gift Order - Gift Message Delivered and Gift Card - Delivered to Recipient.
  3. Open the event. Under Channels, find SMS and select Edit template.
  4. Add your Attentive SMS opt-in link to the SMS body and save. Links are allowed in the SMS body.
  5. Repeat for the other gift message event if you use both.

SMS is included on the Core and Professional plans.

Example: "You just received a gift 🎁 Sign up to view it via SMS: [opt-in link]"

Connect Attentive

  1. Open the Giftnote app inside your Shopify admin.
  2. Go to Settings → Integrations. Find Attentive under Marketing and select Configure (or Settings if it is already connected).
  3. Connect your Attentive account. Attentive uses OAuth for authentication. You'll be redirected to Attentive to approve the integration.
  4. Review the permissions.
  5. Click allow to authorize the connection. Back in Giftnote, the Connection card reads Connected via OAuth, with Reconnect and Disconnect.

Send test events and check they arrive

  1. Send test events. Under Notification Events, select Test All, or Test on a single event.
  2. Check events are coming through by creating a new journey in Attentive. Start a new journey from scratch.
  3. Check you're able to see all available Giftnote events. The Attentive settings page in Giftnote lists each event with who it is for (customer, recipient or both).
  4. You can now create flows based off these events as triggers. To change the name Attentive receives for an event, select Edit on it in Giftnote.

Create your journey in Attentive

  1. Start a new journey and choose Flow.
  2. Create a new email in the flow.
  3. Use personalization for the recipient name: {{triggerEvent.custom['To']}}
  4. Suggested subject line: You just received a gift from!
  5. Build your email using these available Giftnote variables:
    • {{triggerEvent.custom['From']}} – Sender name
    • {{triggerEvent.custom['Message']}} – Gift message
    • {{triggerEvent.custom['To']}} – Recipient name
  6. Check the exact field names before you build. In Giftnote, select Preview on an event on the Attentive settings page to see every field it sends, including the delivery time.

This gives you full control over the gifting experience while Giftnote continues to handle delivery and timing.

Turn on the integration

  1. When you're ready, head back to the Attentive settings page in Giftnote.
  2. Leave the switch on for each event you have a journey for. Enable All and Disable All change every event at once.
  3. Turn on Integration Enabled if it is off. The card reads "Events are being sent to Attentive". Save if a save bar appears.

Events will now be sent to Attentive.
