A gift is won or lost on the store before any email sends. If shoppers can't see a gift option, they don't add a note, and the recipient never hears from the brand. This prompt walks your client's store as a shopper and scores 8 checks. It works on any store, whether or not the client uses Giftnote. For Giftnote clients, run it with the Klaviyo audit (article 3) to cover both sides.
Before you run any prompt. AI tools make mistakes. Only run this for clients who've given you permission, and check every finding on the store yourself before you share it. You're responsible for what you send the client.
1. The checks
2. The prompt
Use an AI assistant that can browse websites, such as Claude with web access or Claude in Chrome. Paste this, with the store filled in:
Rules for this task:
- Visit only [STORE URL]. Act as a shopper. Never check out, log in, submit a form or enter personal details.
- You may add one product to the cart to see the cart. Don't buy anything.
- If you hit a bot check ("Verify you are human" or similar), stop and tell me. Don't try to get past it.
- Tell me which country and currency the store showed you. Stores show different versions by country.
Task: check the on-site gifting experience on [STORE URL]. For each check, give a status (Good, Fix or Missing), what you saw, and the page you saw it on.
1. Product page: open a best-selling product. Is there a gift option or gift message near Add to cart?
2. Cart: add that product to the cart. Is there a gift option in the cart drawer? On the cart page? Can you see it without scrolling?
3. Checkout: is there any sign of a gift option at checkout or on the order status page? (Say if you can't tell without checking out.)
4. Gift cards: open the gift card product. Can the buyer enter a recipient name and email, a note and a send date? Or does it say the card is emailed to the buyer?
5. Gift guide: is there a gift guide or gifting collection in the main menu? What's in it?
6. Cut-off dates: search the home page, cart, shipping page and FAQ for holiday "order by" or delivery cut-off dates.
7. Gift receipt and wrap: any mention of gift receipts, hiding prices, gift wrap or gift boxes?
8. Language: list where gifting words ("gift", "send as a gift", "for her", "gift message") appear on the home, product and cart pages.
Finish with a table: check, status, what you saw, the fix. Then the top 3 fixes before the next gifting peak.3. Check the setup with Shopify Sidekick (Giftnote clients)
The prompt sees what shoppers see. Sidekick, in the client's Shopify admin, shows whether gifts are coming through. With collaborator access, select Work with Sidekick and ask:
More questions are in Ask Shopify Sidekick about your gifts.
4. Fix what it finds
Check the country. Shopify shows each visitor the store for their country, with different prices and sometimes different gift options. If the AI saw a different country from your client's main market, check those findings yourself from that market before you share them.
