8. Test a Multi Gift order before you go live
Place a test Multi Gift order end to end without paying for it: three ways to get past payment, what to check afterwards, and how to clean up so nothing ships.

On the free plan or Core? Multi Gift needs the Professional plan. Choose a plan in Settings > Subscription in the app, or email support@giftnote.com and we'll help you choose. Which plan do I need?
Before you share your Multi Gift storefront, place one order yourself from start to finish. It's the only way to see what your customer sees at checkout, which emails go out, and how the orders land in Shopify.
1. Place the test order
Open your storefront, add a product and add three to five recipients. Use your own email addresses (for example
you+1@yourstore.com) so the recipient emails come to you.Fill in the billing details on the review page and click Checkout. Giftnote creates a draft order in Shopify and sends you to Shopify checkout.
2. Get past payment without paying
Pick whichever suits you. All three create the main order and the recipient orders exactly like a real one.
Mark the draft order as paid. In Shopify, go to Orders > Drafts, open the draft order and choose Collect payment > Mark as paid. No checkout needed, and your team can use this any time you want to cover an order yourself.
Use a gift card. Create a Shopify gift card for the order total (Shopify admin > Products > Gift cards) and enter the code at checkout.
Turn on discount codes temporarily. Allow discount codes on Multi Gift checkout, create a 100% off code in Shopify, place the order with it, then turn discount codes off again if you don't want customers using them.
If your store has a test payment gateway on, you can also pay with its test card instead.
Test orders are real Shopify orders. If your warehouse or 3PL picks up new orders automatically, turn on Hold every order for review before it can ship before you test, or cancel the orders straight after (see step 5).
3. Check what happened
Shopify: search the order's family code tag (
GNMG-followed by the code). You should see the main order plus one order per recipient tagged GNMG-Child. If Cancel the main order once it's paid is on, the main order shows as cancelled. That's expected.Giftnote: open the order under Multi Gifts. Each recipient should have a Shopify order and a healthy status.
Emails: check your inbox for the buyer emails, the recipient emails and your team's Multi Gift - Placed and Multi Gift - Paid notifications.
Checkout and order status pages: look at what your customer saw at checkout and on the thank-you page.
4. Tidy up Shopify checkout and emails
Your test will show two Shopify messages that look like something went wrong: checkout asks only for a billing address, and the paid order shows as cancelled. Fix both before you go live:
Add a multi-address notice to your Shopify checkout: two short checkout banners, and which checkout blocks to hide for bulk gifting.
Explain the "cancelled" status in your Multi Gift emails: a small edit to Shopify's order confirmation so View order status goes to the Multi Gift order page.
Gift progress widget: the block buyers see on the thank-you and order status pages.
5. Clean up
Cancel the recipient orders in Shopify (search the family code tag to find them all), so nothing ships and your reports stay clean.
Turn discount codes back off, and turn order holds off, if you changed them for the test.
