How to setup Dotdigital

Heads up — Giftnote v3 is here and the app looks different. We have just launched a completely new interface, so some screenshots and menu names in this article are still from the old version. Use our integration with Dotdigital for total control and customization of the gifting journey.

Configure Dotdigital from the Giftnote Dashboard.

  • Open the Giftnote App inside your Shopify Admin
  • Navigate to settings > integrations
  • Find the Dotdigital integration and click configure

  • You can configure the integration settings from this screen.

  • You will need to create an API User inside DotDigital to complete the integration
  • Open up your Dotdigital dashboard
  • Go to the settings screen, and navigate to the "Access" setting.
  • From the access screen, navigate to API Users
  • From here, we can create a new API User by clicking "ADD NEW API USER"
  • Complete the form
    • Enter "Giftnote" for the description, or similar.
    • Enter a password for the API. This will be used by Giftnote to connect to Dotdigital.
      • Make sure to remember the password used
    • Select "Tiered" rate limiting
    • Set the status to "Enabled"
  • Hit Save to create the API User
  • Head back to Giftnote and enter your email, and password (key)

Configure Campaign IDs and Testing

  • From the configuration settings, there are Campaign ID fields below each Giftnote Event on the right hand side.
  • You can configure a "Triggered Email" campaign ID for each event you want to use,

  • Create or edit a new Triggered Email Campaign
  • Below is an basic template of a campaign
  • Depending on the event, the following personalization values can be used
    • @TO@
    • @FROM@
    • @MESSAGE@
    • @DELIVERYMETHOD@
    • @SCHEDULEDTIME@
    • @GIFTCARDCODE@
    • @GIFTCARDVALUE@
    • @GIFTCARDEXPIRY@
    • @GIFTCARDSKU@
    • @GIFTCARDBALANCE@
    • @ORDERSKUS@
    • @ACTIVITYID@
    • @RETURNURL@
  • When creating/editing a campaign, the ID can be found from the URL
    • Where "YOUR_COMPAIGN_ID" would be the actual ID of your campaign
  • Copy the ID from the URL and enter it under the matching event.
  • Click save
  • To test the integration, head back to the Access settings and navigate to "API Logs"
  • Turn on API Logging, and wait about 5 minutes.
  • Click "Send Test Events" in Giftnote to send mock events to Dotdigital
  • From the API Logs, you can see details of events sent from Giftnote.
  • When you're ready, head back to Giftnote admin
  • Enabled Dotdigital and hit Save
  • Events will now be sent to Dotdigital!
