Giftnote integrates with Shopify Flow, providing a large range of events and variables to use.

Settings → Gift Orders → Advanced. Tag Gift Orders adds a tag you can use as a condition in Shopify Flow.

This guide is intended for experienced users of Shopify Flow.

Integrating Shopify Flow and Giftnote

To begin, Giftnote needs to be installed on your Shopify store. Shopify Flow then lists Giftnote as a trigger app.

  1. Install the Giftnote app on your Shopify store.
  2. Open Shopify Flow and create a new workflow.
  3. Select "Giftnote: Engine for Gifting" as the trigger app.
  4. Choose which gift events should trigger your workflow.

Enabling Giftnote events

Open the Giftnote app in your Shopify admin and select Settings, then select Integrations in the settings menu. Find Shopify Flow under Operational and select Configure (or Settings if it is already connected). This opens the Shopify Flow integration settings. Make sure Integration Enabled is on. Triggers fire when you build and turn on a workflow in Shopify Flow itself — Giftnote can't turn one on. Under Notification Events, each event shows whether a workflow is using it (In use by an enabled workflow or Not currently used). Use an event's switch, or Disable All, only to block a trigger; Allow All lets them all fire again. Select Edit on an event to add custom payload fields.

Giftnote triggers

Giftnote currently provides the following triggers for use in Shopify Flow. In Flow, they're listed under the app Giftnote: Engine for Gifting.

  • Gift card created - a gift card is purchased without a message
  • Gift card message created - a gift card is purchased with a message
  • Gift card message delivered - a gift card message is sent to the recipient
  • Order message created - an order is created with a message
  • Order message delivered - an order message is sent to the recipient
  • Store credit issued - a store credit is issued

There is no trigger for a redeemed gift card, and no Multi Gift trigger.

The Shopify Flow integration page in the Giftnote app (see above) lists the Giftnote events under Notification Events, and shows which ones an enabled workflow is using.

Giftnote conditionals

These are the conditionals currently offered for use with the Giftnote triggers. These will vary between the triggers.

Order message conditionals

  • Message - checks the message by the sender
  • Recipient email - checks the recipient's email
  • Recipient phone - checks the recipient's phone
  • From - checks the sender
  • To - checks the recipient

They also have access to the following Shopify API conditionals:

  • Order
  • Customer
  • Shop

Gift card only conditionals

  • Gift card code - checks the gift card code
  • Gift card value - checks the gift card value

They also have access to the following Shopify API conditionals:

  • Order
  • Customer
  • Shop
  • Product

Gift card message conditionals

  • Message - checks the message by the sender
  • Recipient email - checks the recipient's email
  • Recipient phone - checks the recipient's phone
  • From - checks the sender
  • To - checks the recipient
  • Gift card code - checks the gift card code
  • Gift card value - checks the gift card value

They also have access to the following Shopify API conditionals:

  • Order
  • Customer
  • Shop
  • Product

Giftnote actions

Giftnote currently offers two actions for use in your own Flow workflows:

Create Gift Card $

Creates and emails a gift card of a fixed dollar value.

This will require

  • Email address
  • Value
  • Currency

Optionally the following can also be set

  • Expiry days — the number of days from issue until the gift card expires
  • Activity Id
  • Suppress notification
  • Order reference

Create Gift Card %

Same as above, but the value is a percentage of an order's subtotal. This action requires an order reference, so it can only be chained after a trigger that exposes an order. It can't follow a store credit trigger, for example, because issuing store credit has no order.
